CBD, also known as cannabidiol, one of many chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. These compounds are called cannabinoids. The most recognized cannabinoid is called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Other known cannabinoids include CBG (cannabigerol), CBL (cannabicyclol), and CBT (cannabicitran). Consider these are the building blocks that make up the entire structure of the cannabis plant.
CBD oil comes from a cannabis plant, known as marijuana, and industrial hemp. Cannabinoids are mainly formed in the trichomes on the hemp flowers. These trichomes can be very sticky (oil) causing it to become a resin base. CBD is one of hundreds of cannabinoids found in this resin once it has been extracted. From there, it can be sold as pure or diluted with oil.
Hemp seed oil can also be derived from hemp. By pressing plant’s seeds, oil is obtained. This type of oil can be easily found on Amazon or at your local grocery store. While hemp seed oil does have great health benefits, it does not contain the CBD compound.
Other ways to reference CBD oil names are CBD-rich hemp oil, hemp-derived CBD oil, CBD-rich cannabis oil, or full spectrum hemp extracts. If the product is labeled CBD, then it is CBD oil. Otherwise, it is hemp seed oil.
Full Spectrum (or whole plant) CBD oil products come with all the cannabinoids present in hemp. This includes CBN (Cannabinol), CBL (Cannabicyclol), CBT (cannabicitran), CBG (cannabigerol) and many more. It may also contain a very small amount of THC (.3% which is the legal amount).
Studies have shown when all the cannabinoids are combined and working together, they will have a much stronger effect than a single compound. This is what is known as the entourage effect. Interaction, or synergy between the multiple cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids present in the plant that characterizes the effects of cannabis.
Broad Spectrum products means cannabinoids and terpenes are added to an oil base leaving out the non-psychoactive compound THC. Reputable companies will have reports available from third party labs to show exactly what kind of cannabinoids and terpenes were added and at what level.
CBD Isolate is a crystalline white powder making it “99% pure”. All the other cannabinoids including THC has been removed and separated during the extraction process. CBD Isolate is odorless and virtually tasteless. Making this a perfect ingredient to create your own CBD infused topicals, edibles, beverages and tinctures.
The answer is no. CBD will not get you “high” by smoking or ingesting. CBD oil can be extracted and isolated from THC giving the user a non-psychoactive feeling.

Your brain and body are made of billions of cells called neurons. The neurons communicate with other neurons through a network called Endocannabinoid System. It has receptors that regulate bodily functions such as mood, pain, memory, appetite, metabolism, bone development, sleep, and immune function. The receptors are referred to as CB1 and CB2. They are activated by natural endocannabinoids produced by the human body as well as by plant cannabinoids.
What this means is… it helps keeps the body balanced.
While CBD is safe to use, it can potentially interfere with other medications you may be taking. We recommend that you consult with your doctor before taking CBD oil if you’re on medications. CBD is a chemical compound, and like all chemicals, it can interact with medications.
They both come from the plant called cannabis. Industrial hemp will have higher levels of CBD and contains 0.03% or less of THC (the psychoactive compound), Marijuana will have high levels of THC and a minute amount of CBD.
