Let us show you the confidence on making the right decision.

In this guide, you will find the most popular methods for consuming and explain why you may choose one over the other.

Some common methods we will discuss below:

Sublingual, Vaping, Oral, Topicals, Transdermal, Suppositories

Before we discuss the different methods for consuming CBD oil and how to use it, we should explain “bioavailability”.

Bioavailability means the amount of CBD that “actually” gets into your bloodstream for the body to use. Choosing one method of CBD consumption is not always better than the other. The method you choose will depend entirely on how long the body can “hold on” for CBD to take effect.

One example would be if a person has severe nausea and can’t keep from vomiting, you would not want to take a CBD gelcap. The body may not be able to process fast enough for it to take effect. In this situation, you may want to try vaping. Inhalation method are excellent for people seeking immediate relief.

100% bioavailability means intravenous method. CBD oil can not be used this way. However, we can give a general range of what percentage bioavailability CBD amount has in the body after using a preferred method.

Sublingual (20-30% Bioavailability)

Probably the most common method. CBD tinctures are often combined with other ingredients like coconut oil, grape seed oil, or hemp seed oil to help dilute the thick hemp extracts. CBD tinctures comes with a dropper giving the user full control of their dosing needs. Just place drops under the tongue, holding there for at least 60-90 seconds. Tiny membranes under the tongue will absorb the oil directly into the bloodstream to avoid the digestive tract. This will allow a higher bioavailability with faster effect but may not last as long.

Vaping/Inhalation (approximately 30-40% Bioavailability)

CBD oil can be infused as a e-liquid, designed for vaporizer pens.  Vaping CBD oil has become very popular. It has immediate relief and comes in many flavors. CBD can be delivered directly to the lungs and immediately to the bloodstream. Individuals who suffer from migraines, anxiety, and panic attacks typically choose this method because its simple to use and fast acting.

Oral/Edibles (approximately 5% Bioavailability)

It's a convenient method to consume and for those who don’t like the taste associated with hemp. This method takes a little longer to enter the bloodstream. But once it reaches, individuals can feel relief lasting quite a long time, up to 6 hours. Oral can include gelcaps, capsulels, gummies, chocolate bars and beverages. However, this method gives the user a very low, average 5%, bioavailability. This means you may have to consume higher doses to achieve the same effects as the other methods. Orals offers a pre-determined potency amount per serving of 10mg ,15mg, 25mg, and 30mg.

CBD infused balms, lotions, salve, and cream that are absorbed through the skin for localized relief from pain, muscle/joint soreness, and inflammation. CBD oil are anti-inflammatory,with antioxidant and anti-aging substances. Hemp seed oil is a great source of protein that's rich in omega-3 and omega-6 and contains essential fatty acids. Studies has shown when combined as a topical, this method can be used to treat troubled areas of the skin such as acne, psoriasis and eczema.

Transdermal (approximately 70%)

Absorbs through the skin. CBD can be applied to the skin but works differently than topicals. Special blend of emulsifiers are added to the patch or cream to help CBD oil penetrate through the skin into the bloodstream.  Transdermal products will have a much higher bioavailability, with studies showing it at around 70%+. Topicals work on top of the skin and can never enter the bloodstream leaving 0% bioavailability.

Suppositories (approximately 80-90% Bioavailability)

Least commonly used method but has one of the highest bioavailability. This form of administration offers a much faster relief, within 10-15 minutes, with effects usually lasting 4-8 hours depending on the individual. Anyone who needs to consume high doses of CBD, but are having troubles swallowing, nausea or vomiting should consider trying this method.

Can't decide on which CBD products to choose?

Are you still wondering which product to use? Keep in mind, it’s common to use more than one method as needed. Some individuals, with a chronic illness, may use CBD tincture daily for preventive and use a topical or vaping pen method as needed when aliments flare up. Another example would be taking a CBD gelcap when you are feeling pain and using a topical cream while you wait for the gelcap to start working. The decision is up to you to decide the best way to consume CBD oil. It could take some time to figure out since everyone has different experiences.
